Preface
There are some rules of grammar that give writers flexibility in expressing themselves. This crash course is about those rules.
Before going on, let me define a few terms I will be using freely:
Verb: A word that expresses an action.
Noun: A word that expresses a person, place, thing or idea.
Verb Phrase: A verb plus words that qualify the verb.
Noun Phrase: A noun plus words that qualify the noun, or a phrase that serves the grammatical function of a noun.
Modifier: The word(s) that describe a verb (phrase) or a noun (phrase).
Subject: The main noun [that does the main verb] in a sentence.
Clause: A thought with a subject and a predicate.
All other terms can be figured out based on given examples.
